BASIC RULES

Remember these 4 things before going

Most problems come from unclear rules, unchecked fees or missed trains. Confirm these first and the experience gets much easier.

Set a spending limit Pachinko and arcades can easily go over budget. Decide the maximum spend and stop when you reach it.
Carry ID Net cafes, late-night venues and some bars may require age checks or member registration. Keep your passport or residence card with you.
Check packages and extensions Karaoke and net cafes often charge by time. Confirm extensions, drinks and late-night fees.
Check the last train Before night activities, check your route home. If you miss the train, consider net cafes, hotels or taxi cost in advance.
MANNERS

Entry manners that avoid awkward moments

Japanese entertainment spots are not difficult, but many rules are on posters or price boards. A few basics reduce communication stress.

01
Ask the price before entering

When a fee is unclear, ask how much it costs. Confirm seat charges, service fees and time packages before entering.

02
Confirm before taking photos

Arcades, bars and pachinko shops may limit photography. Avoid other people’s faces and ask staff when unsure.

03
Keep volume and personal space in mind

Private rooms are relaxed, but hallways, counters and common areas still require lower volume and consideration for others.

SAMPLE ROUTE

Sample route for one evening

When you do not want to over-plan, follow this order. It is relaxed and beginner-friendly.

18:00
After dinner: arcade or bowling

Start with something light. Entertainment complexes are especially convenient on rainy or very hot days.

20:00
Main choice: karaoke or bar

Choose karaoke for energy, or a bar for slower conversation. For groups, check room or seat availability early.

23:00
Before the last train: decide your way back

If you miss the train, choose a safe option. Net cafes can work as rest stops, but check location and fees first.
